L auteur consacre un chapitre introductif au développement de l Internet. Il s intéresse ensuite au rôle du droit de la propriété intellectuelle dans l encouragement de l innovation technologique. Dans un troisième chapitre, il décrit le fondement juridique des transactions sur l Internet : l émergence d un droit du commerce électronique. Le chapitre suivant est consacré aux infrastructures de télécommunication et à la croissance du commerce électronique. Bradford Smith décrit également les droits de l individu dans le cadre de l évolution du droit de l Internet. Enfin, les derniers développements du cours sont consacrés aux liens entre l Internet et la culture.

In addition to a description of the principal tendencies which influence society and the global market, Bradford Smith presents the respective roles which are played by the public and private sectors to help the citizens draw benefit from digital technology. The author dedicates an introductory chapter to the development or the internet. He then examines the role of intellectual property laws in the encouragement of technological innovation. In the third chapter, he describes the legal basis for transactions on the Internet: the emerging law for electronic commerce. The following chapter is dedicated to telecommunications infrastructure and the growth of electronic commerce. Bradford Smith also describes the rights of the individual within the framework of the evolving Internet laws. The last chapters of his course a dedicated to the links between the Internet and culture.
