Le juge Oda présente ainsi successivement la compétence de la Cour en matière contentieuse, les procédures incidentes en matière contentieuse, le rôle consultatif de la Cour, la Cour en tant qu institution et son processus décisionnel, et le rôle de la Cour internationale de justice en matière de règlement des différends relatifs au droit de la mer. | ||

Shigeru Oda intends to give a general overview of the Court from the perspective of the position he has held during the last twenty years, in order to show the Court's status today and what steps must be taken for its future development. Judge Oda then successively informs the reader about the Court's jurisdiction in contentious matters, the incidental proceedings in contentious cases, the advisory role of the Court, the Court as an institution and its decision-making process, and the role of the International Court of Justice and the settlement of disputes relating to the Law of the Sea. | ||
